Earl Grey
In 1833 Earl Grey, the Earl of Howick Hall, at that time the British Prime Minister, suspended the price monoply which the East India Company had over the tea trade with China.
The originally pure Chinese tea was lightly flavoured with fine and uplifting Bergamot oil.
The additional fragrance which was provided by the Chinese was intended to protect the tea from the taste of mould and tar which could arise from the long voyage at sea to Royal England.
Little did they know that they had created one of Englands finest and most favoured teas – named in honour of Earl Grey.

It is grown in the province of Anhui in Central China, where small plantations and family run farms are able to offer their exquisite specialities to the western market. Lapsang Souchong is a classic tea from China, delicate, smooth and richly aromatic.
